An extraordinary musical experience

Following the outstanding success of Verdi’s Requiem in 2008, Yorkshire Voices this year present two of the most distinctive works of recent years. Karl Jenkins’ work, The Armed Man subtitled ‘A Mass for Peace’, was commissioned by the Royal Armouries here in Leeds. The work uses the mass, interspersed with words from the Bible, Kipling, Tennyson, and the Islamic Call to Prayer as a cry against the horrific consequence of war. This emotive work has maintained its immense popularity since it premiered in April 2000.

‘I Love the World’ wrote David Fanshawe as a footnote to his score for African Sanctus, which celebrates the sounds and beliefs of Africa. The Sanctus draws together Christian, Islamic, Tribal and Folk based music, rhythm and dance into a truly unique work of great power. It is infectious, beautiful, memorable and an extraordinary experience!
